Barely ten minutes from the Jungfraujoch railway station, the coolest hotspot in the Alps awaits you. Here, the Plateau’s vantage platform offers views on the one side of the Mittelland and as far as the Black Forest and the Vosges, while on the other side, the Aletsch Glacier, bordered by four-thousand-metre peaks. Visit the Ice Palace and its treasures. Mountain guides created the aisles and halls in the 1930s with picks and saws in the middle of the Jungfraufirn.

Today, artists carve the ice into realistic creatures such as an eagle, penguin, bear as though they had just turned to ice. Discover more attractions around Europe’s highest railway station or simply take refreshments in one of the many restaurants.

Take some time to stroll along the lakeside in Montreux or visit the famous Château de Chillon before continuing your journey by regional train to Zermatt, the alpine resort at the foot of the majestic Matterhorn.

The location of Zermatt at the foot of the Matterhorn and in the middle of an enormous hiking and ski region makes it one of the world’s most attractive vacation villages. The ski region encompasses 54 mountain railways and lifts as well as 360 kms of pistes. The region called “Matterhorn Glacier Paradise” is Europe’s largest and highest lying summer skiing region. Numerous national ski teams train here in the summer.

The region is legendary amongst mountaineers: the Haute Route, a challenging international route that takes several days to complete, leads from Mont Blanc to Zermatt. Over 400 kms of hiking trails lead through and out of the Matter Valley, including the mule traders’ trails, which date back to the 13th century (a part of these paths is paved).

Zermatt offers various excursions up to the surrounding peaks. The Gornergrat Railway is one of the most iconic excursions in Switzerland. On the way down you can hike one of the trails between the stations enroute along the railway line.

Along the way, the Bernina Express rolls over the 65-metre-high Landwasser Viaduct, the signature structure of the Rhaetian Railway and the UNESCO World Heritage site. Travellers are treated to marvellous sights during the journey, like the Montebello curve with a view of the Bernina massif, the Morteratsch glacier, the three lakes Lej Pitschen, Lej Nair and Lago Bianco, the Alp Grüm and the Brusio Circular Viaduct. In Tirano, board your Bernina Express Bus to Lugano passing vineyards in the Valtellina region, through picturesque villages and along Lake Como.

Lugano, the largest town in the holiday region of Ticino, is not only Switzerland’s third most important financial centre but also a town of parks and flowers, villas, and sacred buildings. With Mediterranean flair, Lugano offers all the advantages of a world-class city, combined with the cachet of a small town. Time permitting, take the funicular railway f to Monte Brè, considered the sunniest mountain in Switzerland, which may explain why it is home to the rare and protected Christmas rose, otherwise found only in Southern Europe. Stop for a while on the “summit” – where two restaurants with a sun terrace welcome you. Descents down to Lugano or the lake, always via the Brè village, are in part pretty steep, as are the nature and archaeological trail to Gandria.

The romantic little Brè village with its grottos has succeeded in maintaining its original character of country settlement – further embellished by numerous works of art.

It takes only 17 minutes to travel this fast flat-track route under the Alpine massif in the heart of Europe. Rest of the day at leisure in Lucerne. Optionally, train from Lugano via the Gotthard Pass to Flüelen to board the Gotthard Panoramic Express steamer. Cruise past many historic locations steeped in history, such as the Legendary Rutli meadow (Rütli wiese) where the Swiss confederation was founded by representatives of original 3 cantons of Uri, Schwyz and Unterwalden. Mount Pilatus – Dragon Mountain Escape the city and head up to Pilatus Kulm at an altitude of 2’132 m on the world’s steepest cogwheel railway. The arrival by boat or by train and cogwheel railway alone is enough to put you in a holiday mood. What a magnificent view. Sometimes a sea of fog appears, with only mountain peaks rising above it. Or the view is so clear that you can see every mountain, from the Säntis to the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, across the Jura to the Black Forest. On Pilatus, you can hike, follow in the footsteps of the dragon, enjoy a gourmet meal or a small regional snack or, with a bit of luck, spot an ibex.

Mount Rigi – Queen of Mountains
Take a ride on Europe’s oldest mountain railway to the Rigi for stunning views of the region and a wide a variety of activities such as hiking, swimming, or just relaxing. Excellent restaurants (and barbecue facilities) are open year-round.

Mount Titlis
The summit of the Titlis lies at 3’020 metres above sea level – high enough for there to be snow even in summer. From Engelberg, take the 8-seater Titlis Xpress gondola lift to Stand station and continue with the revolving Titlis Rotair cable to the summit. Discover the beautiful ice sculptures in the glacier grotto. If you feel like it, take an inflated rubber ring and race down the piste, or ride the Ice Flyer chairlift at a more leisurely pace. comfortable – you can glide over the glacier sitting comfortably in the chairlift. For the more adventurous there is the Titlis Cliff Walk – Europe’s highest suspension bridge and not for the faint-hearted!

Stanserhorn and the world’s unique Cabrio Cableway
It takes 13 minutes to get from Lucerne railway station on the Zentralbahn railway to Stans, cantonal capital of Nidwalden.
The exciting trip up the Stanserhorn on the CabriO cableway and funicular railway, which dates back to 1893, is like taking a trip through cableway history. A 100 km Alpine chain, 10 Swiss lakes, Stanserhorn rangers, marmots, a plant protection area with enchanting flora and fauna, culinary delights in the Stanserhorn revolving restaurant, the specialty Älplermagronen from an edelweiss pot and lots more are just waiting to be discovered on the Stanserhorn. Take some time to stroll along the lakeside in Montreux or visit the famous Château de Chillon before continuing your journey by regional train to Zermatt, the alpine resort at the foot of the majestic Matterhorn.

The location of Zermatt at the foot of the Matterhorn and in the middle of an enormous hiking and ski region makes it one of the world’s most attractive vacation villages. The ski region encompasses 54 mountain railways and lifts as well as 360 kms of pistes. The region called “Matterhorn Glacier Paradise” is Europe’s largest and highest lying summer skiing region. Numerous national ski teams train here in the summer.

The region is legendary amongst mountaineers: the Haute Route, a challenging international route that takes several days to complete, leads from Mont Blanc to Zermatt. Over 400 kms of hiking trails lead through and out of the Matter Valley, including the mule traders’ trails, which date back to the 13th century (a part of these paths is paved).

Zermatt offers various excursions up to the surrounding peaks. The Gornergrat Railway is one of the most iconic excursions in Switzerland. At an altitude of 3089m above sea level you enjoy breath-taking panoramic views of hundreds of peaks, 29 of which are over 4000 metres high, with the Matterhorn right in the centre. On the way down you can hike one of the trails between the stations enroute along the railway line.

Enjoy the legendary Glacier Express: one of the great train-journeys (and the slowest express) in the world. Depart from Zermatt on an 8-hour railway journey across 291 bridges, through 91 tunnels and across the Oberalp Pass at 2,033 metres before arriving in sophisticated St. Moritz in the afternoon. The journey takes you along the deep Rhone valley, over the dramatic Oberalp Pass, through the Rhine Gorge, and through a landscape rich in mountain forests, alpine meadows, mountain streams and valleys, soaked in tradition and centuries-old culture.

The St. Moritz lifestyle is characterised by top-class restaurants that can satisfy gourmet demands even by the side of the slopes; hotels that set standards in every category; and events of international calibre. The Via Serlas guarantees great shopping in a small space – even if your budget is restricted to window-shopping, it’s still a feast for the eyes. However, there a many well-priced eateries to enjoy on any budget.

The St. Moritz transport card, included in your two-night stay, offers you unlimited travel on the public network and on most of the mountain railways or cable car. Corviglia, Corvatsch or Diavolezza are only some of the options or maybe you prefer the philosopher’s walk on top of Muottas Muragl.

Board the Bernina Express Train of the Rhaetian Railway travelling rom St. Moritz to Tirano in Italy. Along the way, the Bernina Express rolls over the 65-metre-high Landwasser Viaduct, the signature structure of the Rhaetian Railway and the UNESCO World Heritage site. Travellers are treated to marvellous sights during the journey, like the Montebello curve with a view of the Bernina massif, the Morteratsch glacier, the three lakes Lej Pitschen, Lej Nair and Lago Bianco, the Alp Grüm and the Brusio Circular Viaduct. In Tirano, board your Bernina Express Bus to Lugano passing vineyards in the Valtellina region, through picturesque villages and along Lake Como.

Lugano, the largest town in the holiday region of Ticino, is not only Switzerland’s third most important financial centre but also a town of parks and flowers, villas, and sacred buildings. With Mediterranean flair, Lugano offers all the advantages of a world-class city, combined with the cachet of a small town. Time permitting, take the funicular railway f to Monte Brè, considered the sunniest mountain in Switzerland, which may explain why it is home to the rare and protected Christmas rose, otherwise found only in Southern Europe. Stop for a while on the “summit” – where two restaurants with a sun terrace welcome you. Descents down to Lugano or the lake, always via the Brè village, are in part pretty steep, as are the nature and archaeological trail to Gandria.

The romantic little Brè village with its grottos has succeeded in maintaining its original character of country settlement – further embellished by numerous works of art.

Why not visit Monte San Salvatore today – Lugano’s house mountain? A funicular railway takes you from Lugano-Paradiso to the top of this famous peak for magnificent 360° panoramic views over the beautiful blue lake.

Train journey from Lugano to Lucerne. Experience the new Gotthard Base Tunnel – with its 57 kilometres it is the longest train tunnel in the world. It takes only 17 minutes to travel this fast flat-track route under the Alpine massif in the heart of Europe. Rest of the day at leisure in Lucerne. Optionally, train from Lugano via the Gotthard Pass to Flüelen to board the Gotthard Panoramic Express steamer. Cruise past many historic locations steeped in history, such as the Legendary Rutli meadow (Rütli wiese) where the Swiss confederation was founded by representatives of original 3 cantons of Uri, Schwyz and Unterwalden. There is a small surcharge for this.

The picturesque city of Lucerne is in the centre of Switzerland. Nestled between lake and mountains, it has a lot to offer historically, culturally, and socially. Experience this unique landscape with the vibrant city and the calmness of Lake Lucerne.

Mount Pilatus – Dragon Mountain Escape the city and head up to Pilatus Kulm at an altitude of 2’132 m on the world’s steepest cogwheel railway. The arrival by boat or by train and cogwheel railway alone is enough to put you in a holiday mood. What a magnificent view. Sometimes a sea of fog appears, with only mountain peaks rising above it. Or the view is so clear that you can see every mountain, from the Säntis to the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, across the Jura to the Black Forest. On Pilatus, you can hike, follow in the footsteps of the dragon, enjoy a gourmet meal or a small regional snack or, with a bit of luck, spot an ibex.

Mount Rigi – Queen of Mountains
Take a ride on Europe’s oldest mountain railway to the Rigi for stunning views of the region and a wide a variety of activities such as hiking, swimming, or just relaxing. Excellent restaurants (and barbecue facilities) are open year-round.

Mount Titlis
The summit of the Titlis lies at 3’020 metres above sea level – high enough for there to be snow even in summer. From Engelberg, take the 8-seater Titlis Xpress gondola lift to Stand station and continue with the revolving Titlis Rotair cable to the summit. Discover the beautiful ice sculptures in the glacier grotto. If you feel like it, take an inflated rubber ring and race down the piste, or ride the Ice Flyer chairlift at a more leisurely pace. comfortable – you can glide over the glacier sitting comfortably in the chairlift. For the more adventurous there is the Titlis Cliff Walk – Europe’s highest suspension bridge and not for the faint-hearted!

Stanserhorn and the world’s unique Cabrio Cableway
It takes 13 minutes to get from Lucerne railway station on the Zentralbahn railway to Stans, cantonal capital of Nidwalden.
The exciting trip up the Stanserhorn on the CabriO cableway and funicular railway, which dates back to 1893, is like taking a trip through cableway history. A 100 km Alpine chain, 10 Swiss lakes, Stanserhorn rangers, marmots, a plant protection area with enchanting flora and fauna, culinary delights in the Stanserhorn revolving restaurant, the specialty Älplermagronen from an edelweiss pot and lots more are just waiting to be discovered on the Stanserhorn. The Stanserhorn is the ideal hiking mountain for all levels. Whether it’s a 30-minute circular summit trail to a 4-hour hike from Stans to the top of the Stanserhorn, there’s something for everyone to choose from.
